Athens' first mosque to open this year 20m ago Greece's largest city is the only European capital without an official mosque. Despite years of opposition from the conservatives and the Orthodox Church, that's set to change later this year.
Athens' first official mosque is set to open in the coming months after a decadeslong fight for its construction by the country's minority Muslim population. "We hope the first prayer will be in September," said Minister of Education and Religion Kostas Gavroglou on Friday.

Local News Officer who helped take down Santa Monica gunman describes what happened 6 years later Holly Stouffer 3:19 PM, Jun 07, 2019
He opened fire inside a home, killing his father and brother. He then jumped inside a car, forcing the driver to take him to Santa Monica College. He shot at a city bus, other cars and buildings along the way. Capt. Raymond Bottenfield with the Santa Monica College Police Department was one of three officers on campus when the shooting began.

The death of a University of St. Thomas graduate in Italy remains under investigation. His body and that of a friend were found this past weekend in the Po River in Turin, Italy, according to the media outlet.
