Manu Dibango, the Lion of Cameroon, RIP
Written by Tom Schnabel I was heartbroken to learn that the great saxophonist Emmanuel N´Djoké "Manu" Dibango, known as the Lion of Cameroon, succumbed to Covid-19 a few days ago in France. The African music titan was 86 and still full of energy and joy, as can be seen in his performance last October at the Grand Rex in Paris, shown below.

Coronavirus: No wake, no funeral, just prayers in a cemetery
Image copyright Getty Images Image caption The way the dead are mourned is changing in these uncertain times. Death is no hushed whisper in Ireland. It's a rallying cry to a whole community. The dead person is brought home and laid out in an open coffin in the "good room". Blinds are drawn.

Verse of the day

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Ps. 24.4, 5 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matthew, 5. 3
