After six long years, the war in Europe was finally over. It was the signal for an explosion in Montreal – a thunderous explosion of joy. Radio station CKAC, at 9:35 a.m., was the first to broadcast the news that Germany had surrendered unconditionally. The ceasefire wouldn’t be official until the following day, but Montreal wasn’t going to wait.
