On May 6, 1987 the Herald of Free Enterprise capsized in 90 seconds as it left Zeebrugge for Dover when the bow doors were left open, flooding the car deck. 193 people lost their lives. Devon woman Clare Ainsworth was living and working in Dover at the time.
