Ryan Navales was a full-fledged carpenter and family man, then lost it all in a blur of drugs and booze. Homeless and all but broken after decades of substance abuse, he turned to a downtown Los Angeles mission known to men and women on Skid Row as The Midnight. His new dawn was Aug. 30, 2011, the day his cousins dropped him off with a backpack.
