Senator Cory Bernardi plans to make a statement to the Senate this afternoon, after earlier telling Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that he would leave the Liberal Party to form a new political party. The new party would be called the Australian Conservatives, 9NEWS political editor Laurie Oakes said.
