WASHINGTON (CNN) - The Supreme Court will gavel in a new term on Tuesday with a thin docket of cases overshadowed by looming questions concerning the future tilt of the court. The justices -- still at reduced strength of eight -- are in a holding pattern of sorts on the issues that closely divide them.
