The Germans are better than us at football and top-flight orchestras. Now they are combining the two. Last night the Berlin Philharmonic fielded a seven-a-side team to play against London orchestras. The philharmonic is in town to play two concerts tonight and tomorrow at the Proms, with programmes including Boulez and Mahler.
