Hear an apocalyptic blockbuster by Max Reger The composer of this hour's music said that everything he was, he had Bach to thank for. Reger's requiem is fragmentary piece, but a mighty fragment at that.

Max Reger, who died a hundred years ago, in 1916, revered Bach, saying, "there is nothing so complex in our modern harmonies that Bach didn't anticipate long ago." The Bach cantata we heard in our last Concert Hour, "O Eternity, you word of thunder," included visions of the Apocalypse, as does Reger's Requiem.
