John Neu took off from England at 4 a.m. on June 6, 1944 — the World War II European invasion that would become known as D-Day. He was copilot on a mission bound for France, towing a glider filled with troops and equipment. He looked down out the window at the line of ships speeding toward the Normandy beaches.
