Gordon Edward Ohm was born on April 20, 1926, at his parents' Palo Alto County farm home two miles northwest of Fenton, Iowa. He was the son of Edward Carl Ohm and Viola Albertina Ida Schmidt Ohm. He had an older sister, Isabelle, and three years later, in 1929, his younger brother, Willard, was born.
