Richard Coles, 58, grew up in Northampton and was a choirboy at Wellingborough School. He can play piano, clarinet and saxophone and moved to London in 1980, joining Bronski Beat with Jimmy Somerville in 1983 then the Communards, whose biggest hit, Don’t Leave Me This Way , was No 1 for four weeks in 1986.
