SIR – From 2025 it will be illegal to install gas boilers in new-build housing, which implies a dramatic switch to heat-pump technology. Scottish and Southern Electricity ( report, September 18 ) has submitted proposals to Ofgem to allow the use of smart meters to switch off high-usage items ... such as heat-pumps.
