Simon Coveney's emerging as the front-runner in the race to replace Phil Hogan as European Commissioner. MEP and Vice President of the European Parliament, Mairead McGuinness and MEP Francis Fitzgerald are also understood to be in the running. The government will put forward its nomination for the role on Tuesday.
