In the end, the July 4 weekend of 2015 wasn't an unusually violent one in Chicago. But the hours between 9:20 p.m. and 4:45 a.m. were undeniably brutal, an example of how, in spite of the careful planning and preventive measures of residents and police, violence in Chicago can flare suddenly and unpredictably.
