Phyllis Rosanne Adam was born on May 3, 1931, to Leonard J. and Helen M. (Nelson) Wiese, in Chicago, Ill. She moved with her family to the Yankton area in 1936 and to Sioux City in 1945. Phyllis loved to share stories of her childhood during the Great Depression and spoke fondly of time spent on her grandmother's farm west of Yankton.
