Germany and Rwanda share close relations. On several occasions, Berlin was warned in advance of the 1994 Rwandan genocide but did not react. Opposition parties are now calling for a re-examination. On April 6, 1994, the plane carrying Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana was shot down by unknown militants.
