Reporters were attacked by protesters in Birmingham, where a first night of protests devolved into chaos. Police in Huntsville said they wanted to head off such chaos, pre-emptively firing rubber bullets into a large crowd, chasing protesters with pepper spray and twice scattering them with tear gas.
