Over 100 cities exploded, led by Washington, D.C., Chicago, Baltimore, and Kansas City, resulting in more than 40 deaths, the arrest of 15,000 mostly black Americans, and damage of tens of millions of dollars. Washington was the epicenter of looting and violence. Thirteen people died in D.C., all but one black.
