. He was 86. His more than 20 years in the U.S. Army included 13 as a Green Beret and three tours of duty in Vietnam. In 2014, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by former President Barack Obama for his heroism in a 1966 battle, where he carried wounded soldiers to safety while fighting off attacking forces.
