Exactly 75 years ago today, the Derby Evening Telegraph newspaper seller hurrying through the bus station was doing a passable imitation of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Hundreds of people flocked after him and within two minutes of receiving his latest supply of papers, he had sold out.
