This building replaced a 17th century church that had been obliterated by an avalanche in 1986. Mario Botta’s vivid creation includes a pair of bells dating from 1746 – the only salvageable parts of the destroyed structure. Alternate layers of white marble and dark gneiss from neighbouring quarries provide lively and uplifting patterning.
