Alasdair Gray, writer and artist. Born: 28 December 1934 in Glasgow. Died: 29 December 2019 in Glasgow, aged 85. Alasdair Gray was a writer and artist – or, as he had it, a “self-employed verbal and pictorial artist” – from Glasgow whose words came to revitalise and embody Scottish literature at the end of the 20th century.
