We flinch a bit now at the torrent of plastic toys and silly stocking-fillers, but there’s healing in the giving. And when there is fracture, and sadness, and rancour, it nourishes as much as food itself. I have never forgotten joining an overnight queue outside Toys ‘R’ Us to get one of those....
