For the first 26 years of her life, Megan Phelps-Roper belonged to America’s most notorious hate group, the Westboro Baptist Church, a community of religious zealots founded in the 1950s by her grandfather Fred Phelps. Westboro celebrates terrorist attacks and gatecrashes military funerals with signs that read, ‘Pray For More Dead Soldiers’.
