But the mutilation didn't stop there. His captors took a Stanley knife to his fingernails, roughly ripping some out, to remove traces of DNA. Mr Lunney was put into a car again and driven away. He was dumped at the edge of a ditch at a crossroads near Cornafean, Co Cavan, 12km west of Cavan town.
