When Sam Carmody was asked to be a godfather to his sister's son, he was "very touched", if a little confused about what the role would involve. Despite "quite a Catholic upbringing", Mr Carmody — who works as a producer at ABC Radio Darwin — had not been a regular churchgoer since he was in high school.
