THE EARLY DAYS. Murphy is a Brooklyn boy, born in 1961 and raised in Bushwick by a single mum. (His parents separated when he was a toddler and his father was stabbed to death by a girlfriend when Murphy was eight.) Comedy came easily to young Murphy, who found that he had a talent for making people laugh.
