We left pub because we spoke Welsh. Reading about the KFC employee in Bangor, I was reminded of a visit to Aberystwyth in the 1970s with Welsh-speaking friends (some of whom, I believe, then worked for BBC Cymru, HTV and the Welsh Office) when bar staff at the Central Hotel (now Coffee #1) in Terrace Road objected to our use of Welsh.
