Rev Ian McNie defeated Rev Liz Hughes by 12 votes to 4 to become Moderator-Designate of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Rev McNie was backed by many of the most conservative parts of the country, including Armagh, Ballymena, Coleraine, Newry and Tyrone, while Rev Hughes was backed by Ards, north Belfast, south Belfast and Derry.
