It was a cloudy January day when pilot David Peak lost contact with his fellow pilots and careered into a field where he lost his life at the age of just 23. David, who had been flying a Spitfire aircraft, had taken off from RAF Chivenor just over an hour before his tragic accident on January 18, 1949.
