A few minutes after gunmen burst into the offices of Charlie Hebdo last week, murdering journalists and cartoonists, the BBC’s resident correspondent in Paris was asked on Radio 5 Live for his opinion on the French satirical magazine. The two words Hugh Schofield found to describe Charlie Hebdo were ‘pretty mediocre’.
