He also wrote about his observations of the city and letters about English grammar. A keen local historian, he penned his first letter to the Argus in 1940 about Anderson Shelters and his last in 2018. Maurice was born in Brighton on March 4, 1925, and he served on the HMS Sirius in the Royal Navy in the Second World War.
