Feb. 20, 1922 – Sept. 14, 2018. The death of Jozef Zawitkowski in Buffalo General Medical Center Sept. 14 was front-page news in his native Poland. The last surviving soldier from his unit in the underground Polish Home Army in World War II, he had been interviewed and honored extensively in recent years.
