Bob Walker, a 36-year-old disc jockey for WTIX radio, was driving to his home in Metairie's Bissonet Plaza in July 1982 when he saw the smoke plumes and smelled something burning. He called his radio station to find out what was going on. "They said, 'Man, a Pan Am plane just crashed,'" Walker recalled recently.
