Dessie was born, reared and lived all of his life in the family home at Lennon Melia Terrace, Dundalk, which he so dearly loved. He survived a life-threatening accident at the age of 18 and further confounded medical opinion to live for four decades afterwards, and quite independently, despite suffering a further major setback not many years later.
