Last Saturday, six prisoners — four from Syria, plus a Palestinian and Tunisian — were freed (though as it was felt they couldn’t safely be repatriated, they were given sanctuary by Uruguay). A fortnight earlier, a Saudi national accused of being an Al Qaeda fighter was sent home. Like Aamer, they had all been at Guantanamo since 2002.
