The institution of marriage has survived some pretty dreadful abusers. Henry VIII comes to mind; so too the pharaohs of Egypt, who kept it in the family. Young Tutankhamun, who died before he was 20, was apparently afflicted with hereditary ailments caused by his father marrying one of his sisters.
