Nicaragua on Thursday was hanging on to the prospect of talks to calm anti-government sentiment behind a week of protests in which at least 37 people died, according to rights groups. Tensions in the poor Central American country remained taut, though violent clashes and police repression that marked the early days of the protests had subsided.
