It was the first of a dozen wins for Pledgure, who says 4BarFriday has changed his life. He has collaborated with guys in Florida and Detroit and shared personal struggles with rappers from New York and Virginia. Pledgure used to rap about "the street life," he said. He grew up in Northeast Portland when crime and poverty rates were still high.
