Bishop of Clonfert John Kirby has expressed his regret at the use of corporal punishment during his time as a teacher in a Co
secondary school. Galway “Corporal punishment was still the order of the day,” Dr Kirby has said, referring to the late 1960s, when he taught mathematics at Garbally College in Ballinasloe.
