Somehow, Davis walked away without serious injury, apart from two compressed vertebrae in his neck, irritating the nerve running down his left arm; the other parachutist was less lucky, breaking his back and fracturing his leg in two places. The pain flares up every few years. This year it’s worse. He doesn’t know why.
