Jim Purks has never been able to get it out of his mind – a clock frozen in time, a floor covered with shards of glass, nails, wood, mortar and blood. It’s been more than 50 years since the young Associated Press reporter entered the shattered 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham on Sept. 15, 1963 – a date that is always with him.
