HUDDLE UP The Johanna Maurice of the Charleston Daily Mail used to say that if you want to get to know real America, read the obituary pages. Popular culture and news coverage focus on extremes – extremes in wealth, poverty, vice, violence and everything else. Some of this is exploitative, but much of it is necessary.
