My first school was in Wharf Street, Stoke. It was in a poor state even for the low base of Stoke Primary schools in the 1960s. The school was strongly associated with St Peter’s Church and had been founded in 1812. It was run down and dilapidated. An early memory is the nursery sand pit which suffered from an invasion by cockroaches.
