When the all-clear sounded we gathered, along with our neighbours, at the top of the lane, Meridian Terrace, which led to our home in Pinegrove Place, Bishopston. Looking towards town, across the Cheltenham Road railway bridge and over the roofs, a bright red glow was spreading in all directions. And the smell - it was awful.

UK writes direct to 365,000 Brits to prepare for end of transition
The UK Government has written to 365,000 UK nationals living in Europe with advice on the actions they need to take to prepare for the end of the UK transition period on December 31. This includes 16,197 letters issued to UK state pensioners and benefit recipients in Cyprus, the British High Commission said on Tuesday.
