A man has been charged with a public order offence after a Remembrance Sunday event was disrupted with a firework. Stuart Potts, 38, of Borough Road, The disturbance sparked anger as hundreds of people stood in solemn reflection during a rendition of the Last Post.

Remembering elocution teacher Vida who was a leading light in amateur theatre
Vida Ayres was a teacher of drama and elocution, a supervisor at Derby Telephone Exchange and a founder member of the Marlowe Players. As a child, I was sent to the elocution classes she held at her home in Wilfred Street. Summer was fine but getting there on dark winter evenings was hazardous.

More than 1,000 crimes reported in churches in three years
MORE than a thousand crimes have been reported at churches and religious buildings in Sussex in less than three years. A Freedom of Information Act (FOI) request to Sussex Police from the Countryside Alliance revealed churches are not only being targeted for lead theft, of which there were 33 recorded cases.
