| Korean Air and Asiana merger to offer ‘wider range of routes’ |

Major consolidation of South Korea’s aviation market is looming following confirmation that Korean Air is planning to purchase rival Asiana Airlines. Korean Air will pay KRW1.8 trillion ($1.6 billion) for Asiana, with state-owned Korea Development Bank investing KRW800 billion to support the deal. South Korea’s flag-carrier plans to raise KRW2.
