Saturday marks 75 years since the declaration of Victory in Japan , which brought to an end to the Second World War. The conflict in Asia and the Pacific saw heroism and compassion, but also cruelty and death. An estimated 71,000 people from Britain and the Commonwealth died there, including over 12,000 in appalling conditions as prisoners of war.
