I had lunch this week with the Japanese Ambassador and was struck by his sense of culture and history. A very modern man but remaining deeply Japanese in life. We talked about Asia and its history and politics. I learned a great deal. Remember when Mr. Mugabe called the people of Mbare in Harare – “people without a totem”.
